General Conference Green Lights Regionalization - What's Next for that Legislation?

April 26, 2024

In a historic moment for The UMC that Bishop Saenz called a "demonstration of the General Conference's unity of mind and spirit," the GC20-in-24 body passed a large portion of "Regionalization" ("Regionalization" has become United Methodist shorthand for a package of legislation that would restructure the denomination.) Under the regionalization legislation, the U.S. and each central conference — church regions in Africa, Europe and the Philippines — would become regional conferences with the same authority to adapt the Book of Discipline, the denomination’s policy book, for more missional effectiveness. CTC Delegation member Daniel Hawkins shares more what this means for local churches and the next steps involved in officially making this church law in the video below.
