w can my unit join the reading program?  Contact your local-unit secretary of program resources. She should have copies of the current year’s reading list and reporting chart. The copies are also available at district and conference events. You read the required number of books and magazines, then use the reporting chart to report your reading, individually or as a group. The list of reading participants should be sent to the district secretary of program resources by August 31.

Can I order program books online?  The Reading Program website gives you direct access to the E-store. For more information, click here to link to the UMW website. 

Do mission and spiritual growth study books count in the Reading Program?  Yes. They are United Methodist Women’s primary mission reading. All are Encouraged to read them. Apply them for credit in the listed categories.

Can more large-print books be offered?  The large-print category is difficult to fill because few large-print books meet the program’s criteria. They often cost more than the maximum $16-19 per book price set for the program.

What is a bonus book?  Bonus-book credit is given for longer, more difficult-to-read books in the education-for-mission and socialaction categories. Reading a bonus book counts as two books.

How can I cut the costs of the reading program?  Have a reading program library! Local units can order several reading program books. Members can share these books. Lift up some of the books in your church newsletter so members know what books are available. Women who have read the books bring them to meetings and recommend them to others. This works! I recommended “After Anne” to my local members. We have never had many reading program participants. Many of the member loved that book and are now reading. Better yet, have a reading circle!
