Trinity Arlington Rises Up Against Hunger

The family life center of Trinity Arlington UMC was a beehive of meal packing activity during the recent Martin Luther King Jr. holiday as 1
47 disciples of Jesus Christ came together, donned stylish hair nets and packed more than 2000 meals for hungry brothers and sisters in Christ all over the world. This was the sixth year that Trinity has partnered with Rise Against Hunger (formally Stop Hunger Now) for this meal packing, disciple-making mission event, but this is the first year that the church has broken the 20,000 meal's packed mark.
"The offering we received during our Christmas Eve services goes towards funding this event," explained Rev. Brenda Beaver, associate pastor at Trinity. "This past Christmas Eve, we received a bountiful offering in support of this event, which allowed us to fund all these meals. Isn't it wonderful? Isn't God good?"
Of course, this event - part of the church's "Do Something" initiative and one that has become a favored MLK Day tradition of the members and staff of Trinity Arlington UMC - wasn't just about doing something nice for folks in need. The event is a chance to live out Trinity's core values of Connect, Learn, Grow, Serve and Give, and remind each other of Jesus great commission of going out and making disciples of all the nations.
This isn't a lesson that only sinks in with the most seasoned disciples at Trinity either if an overheard conversation between three young men (ages 6-8) is any indication. While discussing how funny all the "old people" looked in their hair
nets and getting ready for their roles as runners, one of the boys stated as confidently as if he was saying that water is wet, "This is what people who love Jesus do. They feed each other."
Congratulations Trinity on helping those in need and making deep rooted disciples in the process.
