New ERTs Prepare to Serve

January 16, 2019

It's hard to imagine too many better ways to make disciples than to share your gifts and talents in service to your community as well as anywhere else in the world where people are in need. 25 people did just that on Saturday, Jan. 12 when they said “yes” to their calling to serve and spent their Saturday in Early Response Basic Training at Georgetown FUMC.

If 25 seems like a big class, well, it is. That’s two to three times the number of folks in a typical training session, according to Susan Luttrell, CTC coordinator of disaster response. “I think people are growing in an understanding that moving beyond the walls of the church means helping your neighbor,” she said. “It’s being the ultimate Good Samaritan.”

Saturday’s class included a couple of soon-to-be trainers, Brent Jones of Woodway FUMC and Trisha Sequin of Round Rock FUMC. The session was led by Terry Crain of Salado UMC and Dave Scott of Round Rock FUMC. It kicked off a new season of basic training and recertification/advanced training.
