Ferris Heights Doesn’t Let Delta Stop Its Worship Outside the Walls - A New Video Narrative

“WOW should still be 'WOW!' in spite of the pandemic!”

Ferris Heights United Methodist Church has been participating in an annual, community-wide service project called “Worship Outside the Walls” for several years. The community-wide project — also known as WOW — was established about 10 years ago and is an ecumenical partnership with other local churches in and around Waxahachie. The WOW project has become a big part of the Ferris Heights outreach ministries and a favorite of our congregation.
 
However, with skyrocketing cases of COVID-19 due to the Delta variant this year, the WOW committee decided not to have its traditional gathering of churches coming together to serve the community in 2021. We were saddened to learn of the cancellation but did not give up. We decided to have our own “mini-WOW” on WOW Sunday (Sept. 19), by doing two mission projects. The first project was to pack military goodie bags for those who are currently serving in the military and to deliver them to Fort Hood. The other was to assemble and serve lunch sacks for the residents at Dallas Inn and Suites in Waxahachie.
 
On WOW Sunday, more than 40 volunteers assembled over 70 military goodie bags and 200 lunch sacks. We served the lunch sacks to the residents at the motel, police officers and firefighters. It was such a fun day enough to impact our community for the transformation of the world.
