A Methodist Family’s Foundation and Future Part 3 featuring Mrs. Anne Dobbins

March 08, 2023

A rich family history rooted in the Methodist tradition is important and foundational to Annie Dobbins. However, if you think for a second that this powerhouse child of God is living in the past and longing for how church used to be, then you’ve not spent much time with Miss Annie.

In the final installment of our three-part series, Mrs. Dobbins shares why diversity of thought, experience and action are so very important to the future of The United Methodist Church as well as the church universal. According to Miss Annie, she and her husband Clif (featured in part one of this series), were quite intentional in raising their children and building their branch of the Dobbins family tree to seek out opportunities and experiences in which people of all ages, races and economic backgrounds took part. She fervently believes that this is something that the United Women of Faith (formally United Methodist Women) have gotten quite right over the years and the reason for their long-time and continuing vital impact in communities all across the UMC connection.

Miss Annie, Clif and Rev. Kyland Dobbins (featured in part two of this series) are Methodist Wesleyans that can trace their Methodist family tree back to the abolitionist movement of the 1800s. They have lived and loved through some of more tumultuous times in our country’s and our denominations history, yet still have a hope and excitement for the future of The UMC that is infectious, which is one of the reasons they remain hard at work to lay the foundations of what they believe will be a powerful and diverse United Methodist church going forward.
